What is the Altar Society? Can I join?
Did you know that all women who are members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church are automatically members of the Altar Society by a long standing tradition that relegates the care of the Altar to women? We clean the altar and provide the votive candles, the wine as well as provide financial assistance for special projects as identified by our Pastor.
Most of our funds come from two annual food sale fundraisers.
Corporate communion is always the third Sunday of the month.
We meet once a quarter, pray and plan together and become friends in the process.
The purpose of Altar Society is:
1) for the upkeep of the altar and interior of the church
2) regular laundering of the liturgical linens
3) for the spiritual and financial benefit of the parish
4) for forming better fellowship and social relationships
Our main functions are taking turns cleaning altars every week, general church cleaning twice a year, serving luncheons for funerals, and sponsoring fundraisers. Our fundraisers have provided enough money that we have been able to donate to special projects in the parish such as the purchase of new carpet for the church, a new refrigerator for the kitchen, and are committed to provide $10,000 towards the construction of a handicap bathroom at the north side of the church.
If you would like to join the Altar Society member’s in cleaning the church or working on fundraisers, please contact Helen Barreto, 785-220-3227, We would love to have you join us.
